You are my pride and honor, my mother tongue
16 October 2026
Ahead of State Language Day, celebrated on October 21, a spiritual and educational event entitled “You are my pride and honor, my mother tongue” was organized at the Faculty of Philology on the initiative of Professor Mahbubakhon Sobirova. The event brought together first-year students majoring in Uzbek Language and Literature.
In the first competition, students demonstrated their expressive reading skills by reciting poems celebrating their mother tongue. In the second competition, language-related issues were presented through theatrical performances.
While completing the competition tasks, the students emphasized that, thanks to the Law “On the State Language” and the attainment of independence, the status and prestige of the Uzbek language had been restored, opening up broad prospects for its further development. It was noted that, in the Republic of Uzbekistan, the mother tongue had come to be widely used not only as a means of communication but also as a language of science, literature, and official administration.
The participants also highlighted the growing opportunities to study and teach Uzbek, as well as to publish scientific and literary works and educational materials in the Uzbek language. They emphasized that the mother tongue had become one of the sacred symbols of the independent state, alongside the national flag, coat of arms, anthem, and Constitution, and was protected by law.
Active participants in the event, which involved five student groups, were awarded rare books from Professor M. Sobirova’s personal library.
